Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle

This week, history and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba continue to be inseparable. On September 29, Sony Pictures Entertainment made the announcement that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle was the first Japanese movie to gross over US$600 million worldwide. Demon Slayer was the second film to ever surpass 35 billion yen in Japan, following Demon Slayer and Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle made an estimated US$7.100 million in its third weekend in theaters, according to Sony Pictures Entertainment, for a total of US$118.176 million. The weekend saw the film bring in US$1.815 million on Friday, US$3.050 million on Saturday, and an estimated US$2.235 million on Sunday.  Since Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in 2000, when it made $128 million in the United States, it is the biggest international film there.

Back in Japan, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is the second film ever to pass 35 billion yen, bringing in a total of, as of September 29, 35.06 billion yen (US$236.91 million) on the back of 24.26 million tickets sold since its release 73 days prior.  The official Demon Slayer X (formerly Twitter) account announced that they had finished sharing the movie's box office total on social media.

Demon Slayer has grossed a total of US$16.6 million in Mexico, US$12.5 million in Germany, US$12.3 million in France, US$9.0 million in India, US$8.4 million in the United Kingdom, US$8.1 million in Brazil, US$7.3 million in Indonesia, US$7.0 million in Thailand, US$6.7 million in Malaysia, and US$6.7 million in Spain for Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment. After Superman, it is currently the eighth highest-grossing film of the year worldwide.

In South Korea, KOBIS reports that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has made a total of US$38.82 million with over 5.01 million tickets sold, a massive milestone for any film release in the country.  It is only US$40,000 away from passing F1 to be the highest-grossing film of the year in South Korea, though South Korean film My Daughter is a Zombie will still be number one for ticket sales.
