Chris Evans is an American actor who began his film career with a role in the educational film Biodiversity: Wild About Life! in 1997, which was co-produced by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. He then made appearances in minor television roles in the early 2000s. Evans has described his early filmography from that period as lacking quality. He acted in the television comedy-drama Opposite Sex in 2000, and appeared in the comedies Not Another Teen Movie in 2001 and The Perfect Score in 2004, as well as the action thriller Cellular in 2004.
Evans gained significant recognition in 2005 for his role as Johnny Storm / Human Torch in the superhero film Fantastic Four, which became his highest-paid role at that time. This film marked the beginning of his involvement in various films based on comic books and graphic novels, including Casey Jones in TMNT in 2007, Jake Jensen in The Losers in 2010, Lucas Lee in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World in 2010, and Curtis Everett in Snowpiercer in 2013. His most notable comic book role is that of Steve Rogers (Captain America) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), where he has appeared in eleven films and one video game. These include Danny Boyle's psychological thriller Sunshine in 2007, Marc Webb's drama Gifted in 2017, and a well-received performance in Rian Johnson's Knives Out in 2019. He has starred in several romantic comedies as well, like The Nanny Diaries in 2007, What's Your Number? in 2011, and Playing It Cool in 2015, the last of which he also executive produced. In 2014, Evans made his directorial debut with the romantic drama Before We Go, in which he also produced and acted. He made his Broadway debut in the 2018 revival of Kenneth Lonergan's play Lobby Hero, earning a nomination for a Drama League Award.
